Willemijn Oskam is a specialised intellectual property lawyer focused on helping clients to protect and exploit their trademarks, copyright and designs, particularly in the fields of media and entertainment and other creative industries. Equally comfortable with both commercial and contentious issues, she has experience in fields like freedom of speech and libel and takes a keen interest in fast-moving areas like AI.

“I really enjoy finding solutions that allow my clients to protect their intellectual property while also preserving their relationships,” says Willemijn. She combines a pragmatic, relationship-minded approach with a firm focus on the legal substance and is dedicated to crafting practical deals that work for all parties. Known for being hands-on and constructive in her dealings, yet resolute when it comes to her clients’ interests, she helps clients safeguard their rights while avoiding unnecessary conflict. “After all,” she says, “good relationships are vital and nine out of ten times it’s best not to go to court.” When it comes to the tenth case, however, Willemijn’s expertise is top-notch – recently, for example, she appeared successfully in a case with weighty implications for journalistic freedom of expression.

Prior to joining Leeway, Willemijn worked as an associate at a well-respected intellectual property and media boutique in Amsterdam. Before this, she completed two master’s degrees, one in Civil Law at Leiden University and a second in Internet, Intellectual Property & ICT at VU Amsterdam.
